This new OrganScore volume is the result of over 25 years of practical experience as an organist, responding to musical requests for weddings, funerals and other occasional liturgical services. Over time, the same need has appeared again and again: to have at hand well-known, reliable and effective pieces that can be prepared quickly — or sometimes even sight-read — when a ceremony is approaching. The collection brings together 86 organ pieces, offering a broad selection of familiar works frequently requested by families and congregations: pieces by Bach, Handel, Vivaldi, Mozart, Pachelbel, Franck and others, alongside popular classical works that are not always originally written for the organ but which can be made to work beautifully in a liturgical setting. One of the guiding ideas behind this volume is the strong overlap between wedding and funeral music. Although the occasions are very different, the requested repertoire is often surprisingly similar: solemn, reflective, peaceful, luminous, or gently joyful. Weddings often include quiet and meditative moments, while funerals very often call for music that brings comfort, light and hope rather than sadness alone. Many of the pieces included here are transcriptions or arrangements chosen for their clarity, efficiency and playability. Some are original OrganScore arrangements, deliberately kept as practical as possible; others are by established arrangers such as William T. Best or Théodore Dubois, sometimes presented alongside shorter or easier versions for immediate use. Although conceived primarily for funerals, wedding and occasional services, much of this repertoire can also be used in regular Sunday services — for Communion, postludes, or other liturgical moments — as well as in concert. Faithful to the OrganScore format, this volume offers a performer-friendly layout with no page turns, clear presentation and practical engraving designed for real-life use at the organ. It is intended as a dependable resource for organists faced with those last-minute, personal and often deeply moving musical requests. Content/Inhalt: J.S.
